VOLUME 2, NUMBER 49, OCTOBER 30, 2011
Celebrations, Souls and Saints
On Saturday, October 29, at 10:30am, (if you're reading this for the first time in church on Sunday, it was yesterday), Liza Medina and Ben Martin will be married at Grace Church. Christian weddings are services of worship, and, as such, when celebrated in the church, they are open to the public. The Christian community is always welcomed and encouraged to celebrate the beginning of the new life and vocation of a couple getting married. This case is no exception. And, if you cannot join in the celebration, your prayers are certainly appreciated.
On Tuesday, the Church celebrates All Saints' Day, and Grace Church will offer a Low Mass at Noon (the principle celebration of All Saints will be on the following Sunday, see below).
On Wednesday the Church celebrates the Commemoration of All Faithful Departed and a Low Mass will follow Morning Prayer at 9AM. Note that Holy Unction will not be offered as part of the Mass on Wednesday as it usually is, but if you would like to receive the Sacrament of Holy Unction (Anointing with Oil for the Sick) that day, remain after the Mass and the rector will be happy to offer it.
On Saturday, November 5, Antoinette Alston and Evans Roache will be married, though in a private venue in Hackensack rather than Grace Church. Please hold them in your prayers on that day, too.
Finally, next Sunday, Grace Church will celebrate the Sunday after All Saints' Day with a Procession, Solemn Mass, Thanksgiving over the Water and the Renewal of Baptismal Vows.
It's a busy couple of weeks filled with some of the great celebrations the Church has to offer. God is good.
NEW CHURCH SIGN... As a way of improving thevisibility of Grace Church at Five Corners, our Evangelism Committee had soughtand recommended an upgrade of the church sign facing Five Corners. Thankfully we have received a couple of wonderful donations and memorial money towards the purchase of a new two-sided church sign to be installed closer to the Kinderkamack and Harrington Avenue corner. The new sign will be burgundy and gold with two lower attached information boards indicating service times and our website information. Further to this, we are looking to provide some appropriate landscape lighting, front and back, to improve its visibility during the evening hours. However the current donations represent only half the cost of the sign and we are hoping additional parishioners might step forward with a donation however small to help pay this one-time cost of the project. Anyone so willing can contact Larry Toppin at any time. Thank you very much.
ADULT FORMATION... This Sunday the Rector will begin a three part series on what Saint Paul calls the Powers and Principalities.
SAVE THE DATE... November 19, 2011, 1 — 4 PM, Parish Shopping Day. We are offering a special shopping day with merchandise from Preludes & Fugues, Avon, and Party Lites! Free donuts and coffee while you shop.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERSTO ASSEMBLE THANKSGIVING BASKETS... This year Zion Lutheran Churchis again preparing Thanksgiving baskets for those in need. They are planning to assemble the baskets on Sunday November 20, starting at 6:15 pm and are calling for volunteers. In the past, a delegation of members from Grace Church has helped. Your participation would continue the tradition this year. The people at Zion would also appreciate monetary contributions to the program. Please send them directly to Zion Lutheran to the attention of Trudy Maul. Thanks.
PLEASE REMEMBER FOOD FOR FRIENDS... Autumn reminds many of the bounty of Creation. But it also reminds us that some difficult days lie ahead as the heating season begins—difficult especially for people who have lost their jobs or are underemployed and are struggling to keep their homes heated or even to keep their homes and to keep food on their tables. As we all know, the jobs picture is remaining stubbornly bad. St. Paul's Community Development Corporation Food Pantry, which receives our donations, ministers to many people feeling the impact of the current economy. The people there especially welcome high protein items, such as beans and canned meats. Otherwise, their wish list asks specifically for tuna, cereal, peanut butter, rice, coffee, and pasta. As we approach Thanksgiving, they would especially like canned vegetables, cranberry relish, potatoes, and stuffing. Alternatively checks may be drawn in favor of St. Paul'sCommunity Development Corporation and marked Food Pantry. Please send checks directly to St. Paul's at 451 Van Houten Street, Paterson, NJ 07501. Thank you.
