Christian Education

Our program’s goal is both education and formation. We work to share the rich tradition that is our heritage. Our tradition includes the stories, poetry and teachings of Holy Scripture. We are convinced of the importance of familiarity with the Bible. It is knowledge that becomes more important as we grow older.

Our tradition also includes our liturgy, as we pray together and celebrate the sacraments of the Church. Knowing the liturgy is more than a “how-to” exercise. It is a lifetime doorway. As a part of our tradition, we also seek to form our youth by teaching them to ask questions about the world around them and their role in it. These are the questions of how they relate their faith to the world.

Our goal is to teach; but it is also to provide a safe place to be with friends and have fun.

The Primary Class will use elements of the popular Godly Play curriculum, which emphasizes hands-on experience with “props” as we tell the stories of the Bible. The class will reinforce stories that children learn in play and will have its own time for prayer and worship. Children will meet downstairs promptly at 10 am on Sunday and come upstairs to join their parents at the offertory.

The Intermediate Class will also emphasize elements of Biblical narrative and liturgy. The approach will be modified to fit the ages involved. In addition, this group will have an opportunity to do outreach work in the community. This class will also meet at 10 am but with some variety in timing to offer a chance to participate in the liturgy.

We will ask the Senior Class to relate their faith to living in the world. There will be opportunities for trips and volunteer outreach. This class will meet in the evening on the third Sunday of each month. Off-site events may require the assistance of parent chaperones.
